Blast from the past

Paige and I were in Spokane for the last 2 weeks. While visiting, mom and I were able to attend the play Waite Until Dark performed by my old high school. The performance was fantastic, but the real highlights came before and after the show. As we walked in the door we noticed a display of Sound of Music. My sister Emily played the leading role of Maria back in "98, and there she was, smiling out at us with the rest of the Van Trap family. Apparently the school will be putting the show on again this March and the display was a tribute tot he "originals."

The biggest treat ended the evening. After leaving the theatre I was spotted by the director - my director- as I still think of him. He hurried down the stairs for a huge hug. Then he abandoned his crowd (with many people still wanting to talk to him, it was closing night after all,) and instead invited my mom and myself on a personal guided tour of his "new" theatre.
It was incredible, but it was especially neat to go into the green room and see my face now shining back at me. There I was a Guenevere in Camelot, Nancy in Oliver!, and even little red-deaded Anne from Anne of Green Gables. His threatre was amazing; my sister Emily and I both were called while in college to return and perform at the opening ceremonies. As fantastic as the new theatre is, I have to say I'm grateful it wasn't built in my days, which meant I was "forced" to perform at the exquisite Metropolitan Theatre in downtown Spokane. It's moments like this that make you really miss the stage... well, maybe only a little.

Abby! Do you have any of those on video? I would LOVE to see you in those shows. That must have been awesome to see your old director and realize you're still so revered by him. How fun!!
