Five Year Honeymoon

So it was obviously our five year anniversary, but seriously, when you hear what Dave did you'll understand why I forget and call it a honeymoon. It would take awhile to give all the details so I'll just give a summary of our daily activities.

Friday May 15: I awake and start getting ready for work.
Dave: "Oh, Abby, I forgot. There's been a change of plans. You're not going to work. Just pack this and this and I'll see you at noon." (He had a patient.)
-I have no idea where we're going but we end up in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
-We go out to eat for Chinese, walk around downtown Minneapolis, and enjoy some chocolates from a local shop.
-We stayed at the Marriott in the heart of down town because
A. I'm 6-months pregnant and Dave didn't know how much walking I would be up to, and B. We stayed in a Marriott on our wedding night.

Saturday May 16: Sleep in.
-Spend the entire morning in an amazing - and huge- art museum.
-Go to the lake for a picnic.
-Visit a fun community festival with cotton candy, corn on the cob, etc.
-Dave lets me take a 3 hour nap.
-Awake, get ready and walk to some unknown restaurant that ends up being The Melting Pot. I've ALWAYS wanted to eat there! Dave made reservations 3 months ago and so we end up sitting in a secluded booth with a curtain pulled around for privacy. We enjoy a four-course fondue meal - the fondue pot is kept warm on a burner built into our table. 1st course: a delicious blend of cheeses, with various breads, vegetables, and fruits to dip. 2nd course: salad (no fondue, but still amazing!) 3rd course: entree of cut up lobster, shrimp, fillet mignon, pork, chicken, mushrooms, etc. all in your choice of specialty broth or oil. 4th course: Chocolate! We chose a half dark chocolate/half white chocolate dish. A platter of strawberries, pineapple, cheesecake, spongecake, etc are brought out for dipping. Oh! It was amazing. So I think we must be done with the evening...
-Dave "There's just one more quick stop we need to make."
-We walk a few blocks and end up at The Phantom of the Opera! Are you kidding me?
-After dinner and a show we return to our room, snuggle in our enormous bed and take advantage of...the big screen TV. We just watch a movie until 2am.

Sunday May 17: Sleep in.
-We wanted to go to church but the only Ward meeting time that fit with our schedule was a Spanish speaking ward, so we went to that. Dave is fluent in Spanish, but for me...well it was nice sitting next to Dave for one sacrament (he's always away from me on the stand.)
-Dave had talked to people about the best restaurants in Minneapolis, so we then went out to eat at Famous Dave's Barbecue. We both ordered the FABULOUS brunch buffet (I couldn't stuff it down fast enough) and enjoyed the live band.
Alright, now we must done. Nope, how about once last stop to the lake for...
- Kayaking! In our double kayak we paddled around the 3 adjoining lakes and through the connecting channels. What perfect weather.
-We finished our water sports at 4pm and decided it was time to embark on our homeward journey (5 hours.)
-One last stop to Dairy Queen for dilly bars.
Dave did all of this without even a hint to me. He simply told me not to make any plans for that particular weekend. I'm so glad we were able to have such a wonderful vacation before the baby comes and we never have one again...OK, maybe that's an overstatement, but still. He is so sweet and he loves me so much. How can I not love him back?

P.S. Dave worked all of Spring Break in the Oral Surgery clinic to pay for our Anniversary weekend.

That seriously sounds like so much fun! Its not every day that you can find a guy that will go through all that work to plan such a great anniversary. Good work Dave! Happy 5 years!
