In the past I have only made tomato-based shepherds pie with corn and green beans. This Lion House recipe calls for gravy and carrots and celery. Dave prefers the new gravy one, but although I think I agree, I'd still have to say it was a Not to Eat. The key to good cooking (what am I talking about? Like I have any idea
what the "key" is. But whatever.) The key to good cooking is good ingredients. In this recipe I used store-bought gravy instead of homemade and so its flavor was blah. Use a good gravy and I imagine it would be delicious! In the photo you can see the parboiled vegetables amid the gravy before the mashed potatoes and cheese are added (you can see my chicken stock boiling in the pot next to it.)
Buttermilk Pie
This one was simple and tasty. It is called a pie yet there is no crust. It is more a cake-ish custard. But once you drizzle it with a bit of caramel and raspberries...yum! Though Dave enjoyed it plain.
