to Eat or Not to Eat

Dutch Apple Soup

Definitely Not to Eat, ugh. But what did I expect? It's Weight Watchers? Oh, it smelled sooo delicious, but alas, the garbage enjoyed most of it.
First you pare and slice your apples, add to a base of hot water, cinnamon, salt, and lemon.
And then... but wait, that's pretty much it. Except a bit of corn starch for thickening. Blah. No thanks. Give me butter.

Steamed Carrot Pudding

This on the other hand was worth the effort. To Eat! Yum. If you've never had this please understand it is a dessert. It is commonly eaten at Christmas time. Yes there are grated carrots and
potatoes in it, but it also has grated apples as well as cinnamon, allspice, cloves, nutmeg, nuts, and butter. You are suppose to use a pressure cooker, but since I didn't have one I used the old fashion steaming method:
cover your oven-safe bowl in foil; set
it in a larger pan but make sure the
bowl is sitting on a trivet (those
metal spider things you put under hot pans to protect your table), then pour boiling water halfway up the bowl. Cover tightly and simmer on
the stove 2 1/2 hours. My pot doesn't have a lid so I improvised, but it worked.
Then you serve it with a gooey lemon sauce. Mmmm.
